Don W. Middleton, 84, Greentown, passed away at home Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018. He was born July 29, 1933, in Muncie, Indiana, to Ruth and Joe Middleton.
He graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1952 and started his career at Bearings Inc. in 1953. On Feb. 6, 1955, he and Barbara Badders were married at Hazelwood Christian Church in Muncie, Indiana. In 1964, he was appointed Branch Manager of the newly built Bearings Inc. in Kokomo and the family settled in Greentown and has called it home for the past 53 years. Don retired from Bearings, Inc. in 1993 after 40 years of service.
Don was an avid runner, belonging to Club Kokomo for 30 years. He ran in 14 Indy Mini-Marathons and numerous local races. He loved all kinds of sports and enjoyed watching NASCAR, the Colts, Pacers, and was a lifelong Cubs fan. In 2016 his dream came true when the Cubs won the World Series.
Over the years Don was active in numerous organizations including Elks, Moose, Eagles and Chamber of Commerce of Kokomo. He was head usher and was involved with youth fellowship at the First United Methodist Church of Greentown, where he also served as executive secretary/treasurer of the Board of Trustees.
In Greentown he was a Cub Scoutmaster, Little League baseball coach, active with the Greentown Glass Festival, and was actively involved in the renovation of the building that now houses the Greentown Historical Society. In the 70's, he was the executive secretary of the Greentown Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals where he issued building permits and helped rewrite Greentown's book of zoning ordinances.
Don is survived by wife, Barbara; daughter, Becky Middleton of Richmond; sons Mike (Monica) Middleton of Greentown, and Bill Middleton of Kokomo; grandchildren Miranda, Marissa, Meredith, Malachi and Madison; step-grandchildren Traci, Robin and Cody; brother, DeWight (Peg) Middleton; and sister, Sheila (Jeff) Nelson.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; son, Larry Wray Middleton; and step-granddaughter, Julie Brookbank.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018, at Hasler & Stout Funeral Home, 112 E. Main St., Greentown, with Pastor Steve Eckart officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 5 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
