Denny Wayne Butler, 84, Tipton died at 12:35 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018, at IU Health Tipton Hospital. He was born Dec. 6, 1933, in Tipton to Clarence and Maggie (Miller) Butler. Denny married Sue Ann Miller on March 1, 1957, and she survives.
He worked for the United States Postal Service, retiring in 1989. Denny served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 at the end of the Korean War. He was a member of 1st Baptist Church and loved playing golf, basketball and ping pong. He also enjoyed fishing. Denny loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors besides his wife, Sue, include sons, Jeff Butler and wife Rae, Tipton, and Brad Butler and special friend, Teresa, Tipton; three grandchildren, Brandi (Butler) Oddo, Brieanna Cook and Kyle Tilley and wife Farren; five great-grandchildren, Cameron, Landon, Payton, Davian and Wrigley.
Denny was preceded in death by three brothers, Maurice Butler, John Laverne Butler and Bob Butler; and four sisters, Joyce (Butler) Moody, Marita (Butler) Ballard, Deloris "Dodi" (Butler) Powell and Virginia (Butler) Mellow.
Funeral services for Denny will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Pastor Doug Slack presiding. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Fairview Cemetery with military honors.
