Deacon Joe's Story
Embraced with love, heaven's newest arrival, Deacon Joe David Gaillard, 55, Kokomo, affectionately known as "Big Joe," peacefully ascended into glory Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017. Joe was born April 9, 1962, in Ripley, Mississippi, to Bonnie J. Carter-Gillard and the late Rev. Joe A. Gillard.
Joe was a 1980 Kokomo High School graduate. He was open-hearted and always giving. Joe was loving and faithful in serving the Lord. Joe was a member of City of Refuge Church of God in Christ, where he served as the chairman of the Deacon Board. He was employed through International Union of Operating Engineers Local 103 as a journeyman operating engineer for over 20 years. Joe loved sports and spending time with family and friends. He was an avid KHS sports enthusiast and loved listening to music.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Javonne (Jivaughnde) T. Gaillard; mother, Bonnie J. Gillard, Kokomo; brother, Andre' A. Gillard, Kokomo; sister, Jacklyn Ann Gillard, Kokomo; and nephew, Deionye M. Alston, Kokomo. Joe did not have any children, but loved his special nieces, nephews and godchildren and host of relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, two sisters and grandparents.
The family wants to extend its heartfelt appreciation to the staff of St. Vincent Hospice and the Golden Living Nursing and Rehab Facility.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, with a calling from 9 a.m. until the time of service at Grace Memorial Institutional C.O.G.I.C. in Kokomo. Pastor Harry Beard will be the eulogist. Burial will be in Crown Point Cemetery.
