David A McIlrath, 65, went home to be with Lord on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017. He was born Jan. 14, 1952, in Lafayette, to Dan and Martha (McCord) McIlrath. Dave married his wife, Kathryn (Fleming), on Dec. 28, 1970, in Kokomo.
Dave was a graduate of Northwestern High School and Purdue University. Throughout his career, he worked at Midstates Steel & Wire, General Foods, Caterpillar Tractor Co. and retired from General Electric in Evendale, Ohio.
He was a kind, gentle man who loved his family. Dave enjoyed hunting weekends with the boys and watching the many sports and music activities that his grandchildren were involved in. His great-grandson, Davey, brought him much joy and happiness. He was a "fixer and builder." Dave loved working with his hands and helping his family with home improvement projects. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and loved the Lord.
Dave is survived by his mother, Martha McIlrath; wife, Kathy; children, Anne (Michael) Jones and Michael (Erin) McIlrath; grandchildren, Hannah Jones, Jacob Jones, Gabriel McIlrath and Ava McIlrath; great-grandson, David "little Davey" Jones; siblings, Marie (John) Vanada, Ellie (Dennis) Thurston, James McIlrath, Beth McIlrath, Rob (Cheryl) McIlrath and Becky (Mike) Owen; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dan McIlrath.
There will be a visitation from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017, followed by a funeral service at noon at Ivey Funeral Home, 2565 Princeton Road, Hamilton, OH 45011. Pastor Mike Botts will be officiating.
