Daniel L. Harrison, born October 30, 1939, passed away peacefully in his home on Friday August 24, 2018 at the age of 78 surrounded by his loving family.
He is survived by his loving and dedicated companion, Shirley Ann Harrison, son, Daniel, daughters Deb and Dawn. Grandchildren; Patrick, Meghan, Sarah, Caitlin, Steven, Jake, Daniel II, and Emma, and niece Michelle Morgan and nephew Bill Van Bibber. Also surviving are Mindy and David, loving supporters of their mother and Daniels love story.
Daniel L. Harrison was preceded in death by his wife and mother of his children, Mollie Harrison, parents, Ralph Harrison and Helen Lovejoy Rose, sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Bill Van Bibber.
Daniel was born in Logansport Indiana in 1939. Throughout his life he held many accomplishments. He attended Kokomo High School where he was a letterman swimmer, gymnasts, and diver. He then joined the Navy in 1956 where he served four years. He served on the USS Ticonderoga where he was honored with the distinction of Third Class Petty Officer. He saw action during the opening of the Vietnam War and proudly served his country. Daniel took many computer classes throughout his career, he forged a new path for several students throughout the community teaching them the basics of upcoming computer technology. He spent a majority of his career in the finance business forging relations between local finance operations throughout the Midwest. He was an active member of the Jaycees Club, Elk Club, Secretary Treasurer of the Community Foundation of Howard County. Daniel retired from the Credit Bureau of Kokomo at the age of 55, one of his proudest accomplishments was donating the remaining assets of the Credit Bureau. At the time the assets were matched the by Eli Lilly Foundation which totaled $900,000, the proceeds went to grants for religious, scientific, literacy programs, and the operating expenses for the Community Foundation of Howard County. One of his greatest hobbies was old cars, he spent time completing the Great Race with longtime friend, Phil Wise in 2000. He loved spending time in Florida with Shirley.
A public graveside service will be held on Monday, August 27th, at 1:30 p.m. at Galveston Cemetery. Dr. Tim Lueking and grandson Patrick Hale will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be directed to the Kokomo Humane Society.
