Chester E. "Chet" Ligocki, 89, Fishers, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2018, after a long, valiant battle with cancer. Chet was a shining example of the Greatest Generation. Born in Milwaukee Nov. 3, 1928, to Joseph Ligocki Jr. and Anna (Gradecki) Ligocki, he earned an industrial management degree from the Milwaukee School of Engineering, following his military service in the Army Signal Corps during World War II.
Chet was employed with General Motors for 38 years in various operations/purchasing leadership positions and was recognized as "Man of the Year" in Production Control at Delco Electronics in 1964. He transferred in 1972 from Milwaukee to Kokomo, where he resided with his wife, Jeanne, and five children until moving to Carmel in 1979. Chet retired from GM in 1992.
Chet was a devoted family man and dearly loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He had a delightful dry sense of humor and people enjoyed being around him. Chet could repair most electrical and mechanical things and stayed busy with projects. He was an avid reader and loved to dance (polkas were a specialty).
Chet was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; one sister; and wife, Jeanne (LeBlanc) Ligocki (1987). He was a Catholic by faith, but attended St. Luke's United Methodist Church for a number of years and there he met and married his wife, Lois Gipson Ligocki, in 1993.
Chet is survived by his wife, Lois Ligocki; daughter, Kathleen Ligocki (Pete Rosenau), California; son, Paul B. Ligocki (Nina), California; daughters, Mary Harper (Scott), Shelbyville, Ann Ligocki (Kelly), Noblesville, and Joan Blackwell (Tom), Zionsville; stepdaughter, Linda Striby (Richard); stepson, Paul R. Gipson (Ginny); stepson, David M. Gipson (Kristen); 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
There will be a private viewing and service for Chet and his family. Final care and arrangements are entrusted to Shirley Brothers Fishers-Castleton Chapel. Online condolences may be made at www.shirleybrothers.com.
