Charles Hayes, 76, Kokomo, passed away at 12:50 p.m. Friday, June 2, 2017, at his home. He was born Dec. 11, 1940, in Kokomo, to Lawrence Hayes and Betty (Hoppe) Shaw. He married Dorcas Hayes, and she survives.
Charles attended Western High School and worked at Hardee's, Hank's, Macy's, Kokomo Spring Factory and as a paramedic in Naples, Florida. He enjoyed word searches and cherished spending time with family. He was a member of Brookside Free Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Jimmy Chadwell, Peru; grandchildren, Jesse Chadwell, Melissa (Brent) Richmond, Brian Chadwell, Chris (Jessica) Chadwell, Ashley (Chrystal) Chadwell, Laura (Jeremy) Ream, Tracey Beekman and Michala Cobb; 24 great-grandchildren; nephews, Thomas Hayes, Kokomo, and Patrick (Cassie) Hayes, Texas; and niece, Nancy (Tony) Erb, Russiaville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Phillip Hayes; aunt, Freda Smith; and niece, Ginger Mulkey.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, June 9, 2017, at Brookside Free Methodist Church, 1940 E. 400 South, Kokomo, with Pastor Doug Benham officiating. Burial will follow in Albright Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.
