Catherine Ida Torres, 79, Kokomo, went to be with her Lord at 6:40 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, 2018. Catherine was born March 29, 1938, to Gennaro and Mildred (Griffin) DePalma. Catherine was born in Kokomo into a large, loving family. In her younger years, she found a love for classic movies, music, flowers and many other things, but she enjoyed being around family and friends most of all. She married James Sherman Shelton in 1955, with a large family of their own to soon follow.
Catherine loved to sit and reminisce over a cup of coffee or entertain with those in her life. She had a knack for bringing folks together. She moved to Washington State in the 1970s, and in 1983 she married Maximino Torres. Catherine made everyone feel special, whether it was a handwritten letter, birthday or Christmas card, she was always thinking of others. She was a kind, thoughtful, loving woman. She believed that once you came into her family, you were always family. Catherine was the glue to our family. She loved all of her children, grandchildren, family and friends. She just wanted all of us to get along and love each other.
Surviving Catherine is second husband, Maximino Torres; sons, James "Cherokee" Shelton, Thomas "Tommy Dean" Shelton (Pam), Steven "Stevie" Sample, and Matthew Torres; stepson, Michael Torres; daughters, Deborah "Debbie" Shelton, Antoinette Shelton, Jane Marie Rayls, Jean Maria Brewer (Stanley), Lisa "Ellen Belle" LaFond, Elizabeth Shelton, Stephanie CeCelia Babcock, and Allison Diane Kirchner (Jeff), Bobby Dean and Kimmy Sue; sisters, Margaret Cook and Regina Wingard; sisters-in-law, Illa DePalma, Jean Purvis, Brenda Patterson; brother-in-law, Lester Shelton; 42 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
