Carolyn's Story

Carolyn Wilson, 88, Kokomo, passed away at 6:54 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2018, at St. Vincent Kokomo, with her daughters by her side. She was born Feb. 1, 1930, at home in Sugar Creek Township, Clinton County, the daughter of the late Carl and Lorene (Couden) Shoe. On Sept. 5, 1953, at Hills Baptist Church, she married Willis Ray Wilson, who preceded her in death Jan. 31, 1974.
Carolyn was a graduate of Sugar Creek High School. After high school, she was employed with Buckeye Union Insurance Co., Indianapolis. Later in life she worked for Sycamore Village Nursing Home and St. Joseph Hospital for 18 years. Carolyn was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she was very active in Women's Missionary Society. She enjoyed knitting, reading, and gardening.
Carolyn is survived by her daughters, Donna (Michael) Laughner, Kokomo, and Carla (Kevin) Starich, Kokomo; grandsons, Drew Laughner, Kokomo, and Kyle Starich, Kokomo; sister, Illena Wilson, Kirklin, Indiana; brother, Ferrel (Frances) Shoe, Sheridan, Indiana; brothers-in-law, Joseph (Linda) Wilson, Peru, and James (Melissa) Wilson, Kokomo; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Wilson, Frankfort, Norene Jackson, Kokomo, Loretta (Ralph) Freeman, and Sue Wilson, Kokomo; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband; stepfather, Raymond Price; brothers-in-law, Ralph Wilson, Willard Wilson, Larry Wilson, and William Jackson; one nephew, and three great-nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 26, 2018, at Calvary Baptist Church, 1967 W. Boulevard, Kokomo, with Pastor Jeff Sexton officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo.
