Carl L. Shirar, 84, Burlington, passed away at 2:47 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017, at Waterford Place Health Campus. Carl was born June 19, 1933, in Burlington to the late O. Ray and Helen F. (Larimore) Shirar. He married Donna L. Angle on Aug. 7, 1953, and she survives.
Carl was a 1952 graduate of Burlington High School. He worked at Marsh Supermarket for 17 years and National Tea in Kokomo for 28 years. He was a member of Judson Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school, and he was also a member of the First Church of the Nazarene. He loved working for Ed Rhine and Daughters Landscaping during his retirement years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling to Tennessee and working in his garden.
Survivors include a son, Greg (Susan) Shirar, Corbin, Kentucky; a daughter, Teresa Voorhees (Shelley Knust), Bargersville; grandchildren, Wayne Shirar, Sarah (Ramon) Mercado, Luke (Lindsay) Voorhees and Andria (Brent) Simons; several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ramona Dillman, Wisconsin, and Alice Shields, Kokomo; a brother, Frank (Arlis) Shirar, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Polly Shirar, Frankfort.
His faith was the foundational for him and he lived out his faith, in the church and the community.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Raymond Shirar; and a brother-in-law, Lloyd Dillman.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2017, at First Church of the Nazarene, 2735 S. Washington St., with Pastor David Leeder officiating. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church. Burial is scheduled for Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. in Burlington Cemetery.
