C. Maxine Helton, 94, Kokomo, passed away at 3:35 a.m. on Monday, June 26, 2017, at Century Villa Health Care in Greentown. She was born Feb. 15, 1923, in Hoopston, Illinois, to Darrel and Renova (McBride) Pasley. She married James E. Helton on Feb. 7, 1942, and he preceded her death on July 5, 1986.
Maxine attended Sharpsville High School and graduated from Beauty School in 1957. She worked as head cook at Western Elementary for 20 years before retiring. She cherished spending time with family and enjoyed cooking and supporting her grandchildren in their sporting events.
She is survived by her children, Becky (Robert) Ritchie, Kokomo, Jack (Nancy) Helton, Kokomo, Darrel (Vickie) Helton, Sharpsville, Vickie (Douglas) Miller, Kokomo, and Debra Clippard, Palm Harbor, Florida; 12 grandchildren, Tracy (Kevin) Hewitt, Tamara (Ryan) Sunderman, Bobby (Donna) Ritchie, Rusty (Missie) Ritchie, Robin (Alan) Wilson, Kelly (Rich) Hardin, Jason (Kim) Helton, Matt (Tressica) Helton, Wendy (Scot) McCain, Colby (Jenna) Miller, Colin (Kama) Clippard and Tyler (Brittany) Clippard; 23 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Winnie Willis, Kokomo, and Patty Young, Texas; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Gwen Robinson, Fred Pasley, John Pasley, Billy Pasley, Jean Gilsinger, LaVon Landrum, Bob Pasley and two infants, LeRoy and Lois Marlene; and grandson, Gene Miller.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 30, 2017, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo, with Pastor Steve Cole officiating. Burial will follow in Albright Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit from 5 to 9 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Riley Children's Hospital.
