Bobby Eugene Short passed away Aug. 16, 2019.
Bobby was born Jan. 26, 1941, in Kokomo, Indiana, to Horace Freeman and Ethel Lucille (Barnes) Short, and was a member of the Kokomo High School Class of 1959.
After high school, he proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1961 to 1965, (Okinawa, Japan) where he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and excelled at rifle marksmanship, earning the elite title of Battalion High Expert Distinguished Marksman.
While serving in the Marines in Okinawa, Japan, Bobby met and married the love of his life, Eiko (Teruya) Short, May 2, 1963, and she survives.
They have four children, Jerome, Joe and Kristi (Kelly), Scott, and LeEiko (Short) and Stephen Hockema, and six grandchildren, Jupiter, Sam, Connor, Jalen, Ben, and Jillian.
Bobby retired from the Kokomo Chrysler Transmission Plant after 30 years in 1990, and he worked in numerous job classifications, including test car driver and gage crib technician. He was also a member of the U.A.W. Local 685.
While working at Chrysler, Bobby also earned a real estate salesperson license, and became a broker for his own business, Bob Short Realty.
After his retirement in 1990 from Chrysler, Bobby and his wife, Eiko, enjoyed winters at their Florida residence, where he spent his time playing billiards, fishing, and visiting flea markets. While in Florida, he also discovered a new passion, shuffleboard, and won several Florida state championships.
Throughout his life he loved spending time with family and grandkids and always had a competitive nature for a game of chess, euchre, Monopoly, or eight-ball. He also enjoyed seeing his grandkids and friends smile when performing his one and only magic trick involving a metal ring and necklace chain, whenever a captive audience was available.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Beulah (Short) Harrison.
A private service will be held for the immediate family on Friday, Aug. 23, 2019.
