Betty Jean Vachalek, 88, Kokomo, passed away at 10:47 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017, at St. Vincent Kokomo. She was born June 10, 1929, in Erie, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Samuel and Eva (Erhardt) Puskas. On April 28, 1956, in Detroit, Michigan, she married George A. Vachalek who preceded her in death on Feb. 19, 2005.
Betty was a 1947 graduate of St. Phillip Neri High School in Detroit. She retired in 1962 from U.S. Army Ordnance Tank Automotive Command. Betty was a member of St. Mark Parish in Warren, Michigan. She enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing cards and especially spending time with her grandchildren. Betty loved entertaining and cooking for her family and friends. She was always there to help a friend in need. George and Betty enjoyed vacations in Las Vegas and Baldwin, Michigan.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Diane (Kevin) Kincaid; grandchildren, Courtney Kincaid and Jeremy Kincaid; along with seven nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews and special friends, Boulie Caylor, Madelyn Caylor and Barbara Edwards.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; two sisters; two nephews; and favorite uncle, Adam Erhardt.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017, at St. Mark Parish, 4401 Bart Ave., Warren, Michigan, with Fr. Stanley Obloj the celebrant. Inurnment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at E.J. Mandziuk & Son Funeral Home, 22642 Ryan Road, Warren, MI 48091, where the rosary will be offered at 7 p.m. and from 9 to 9:30 on Tuesday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made in Betty's memory to St. Mark Parish or to St. Joan of Arc Church. Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory assisted the family with arrangements.
