Betty Jean Switzer, 93, Kokomo, passed away Monday, Jan. 8, 2018, at Community Howard Regional Health. Betty was born to Howard and Gertrude (Duty) Nolder on Nov. 19, 1924. She married Donald F. Barr, and he preceded her in death. Betty remarried Ollie M. Switzer, and he preceded her in death March 1, 1998.
Betty was in the Blue Tri Alpha Sorority and was part of a card club for 50 years. She enjoyed going to the casinos and playing the slot machines and shopping. Betty was considered a mother to many of those she babysat. She was truly the matriarch of the family. She loved to cook and have get-togethers with her family.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Sue Barr Yager (deceased husband Frederick); son, Frank L. Switzer; stepson, Ollie J. Switzer; half brothers, Mike Nolder (Colleen), Greg Nolder (Cathy), Wayne Nolder (Marsha); stepbrother, Dan Coughlin; half sister, Carol Mooney; grandchildren, Mark Yager, Brenda Hopkins (Tomas), Christopher Yager (Amanda), Brad Switzer, Carrey Switzer, Jenny Switzer, Brian Switzer, Kevin Switzer; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Shelby, Jacob, Michael, Ashley, Tyler, Breanna, Colin, Caleb; great-great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Jazmyn, Keegan, Adrianah; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Bernard, Edgar and Ralph Nolder; sisters, Stella Massie, Wanda Buckalew, Flora Alwine; and stepsister, Delores Howard.
Services for Betty will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018, at Ellers Mortuary, Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St. Friends may visit from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Chaplain Barb Fort will officiate the service.
