Betty J. (Stroup) Kirkendall passed away Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018, at Wesley Manor Retirement Community in Frankfort, where she had been a resident for 1 1/2 years. She was born July 13, 1929, the 10th child of Rachel M. (White) Stroup and John Orman Stroup in West Middleton.
She graduated from West Middleton High School in the class of 1947 and afterward went to work as a secretary for the Western and Southern Life Insurance Co. She was employed there for 10 years.
She met her husband, Waldo P. Kirkendall (deceased) and married him in December 1956. She then became a full-time housekeeper.
She is survived by her four children, Lu Anne (Mark) Harrison, Lebanon, Karen (Chris) Rocchio, Greentown, Janet Kirkendall, Kokomo, and Jeff Kirkendall, Peru; seven grandchildren, Christy (Clif) Frei, Chicago, Illinois, Rachel Harrison, Lebanon, Jennifer (Joshua) Christensen, Fresno, California, Sarah Rocchio, Indianapolis, Samuel Rocchio, Greentown, Brittany (Roy) Schrader, Mooresville, Daniel Bailey, Mooresville; six great-grandchildren, Levi, Finn and Axel Christensen, Ethan and Macaela Schrader, David Bailey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, parents, and nine brothers and sisters.
A memorial service and reception will be 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 3, at Chapel Hill Christian Church, 2600 W. Alto Road, Kokomo.
