Barbara Dean Quirk, 83, Kokomo, went home to be with her heavenly father Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, in Kokomo. Barbara was born Nov. 11, 1934, in Kokomo, the daughter of the late Otis Dowden and Marjorie Tarter. On Nov. 20, 1955, she married James "Jim" Quirk, who preceded her in death on Jan. 7, 1985.
Barbara retired from Delco Electronics after 30 years of service. She was known for her caring and forgiving heart. She would help anyone out no matter the circumstance. Barbara loved attending her church, Lighthouse Missionary Baptist, when she was physically able to. She enjoyed talking on the phone, spending time with her family, and listening to audio books. She didn't have much in this life as far as material things, but she valued her family more than any amount of money.
Barbara is survived by her brother, Robert Dowden; children, Tonja D. Jackson, James L. Quirk (April), Richard G. Quirk, and Patti D. Quirk, all of Kokomo; grandchildren, Aimee Day (Dayle), Garry R. Quirk (Stephanie), Amber Hale (Phillip Jr.), Heather D. Quirk, James B. Quirk, Tiffany Lewis (Keith), Whittney Fording, Ashley Fording, Shawn Fording, and Timmy Fording, all of Kokomo; stepgrandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Jack Dowden.
Family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 7 at Lighthouse Missionary Baptist Church, 1300 E. Barkdol St., Kokomo, IN 46901, with services at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 8, officiated by Pastor Fred McKee. Barbara will be laid to rest at Kokomo Memorial Park.
