Annette (Pavey) Shelton, 85, went to be with her heavenly Father on Monday afternoon, Feb. 5, 2018, at the Wellbrooke of Wabash Assisted Living Center, with her husband, Jim, and daughter, Shawn, by her side. She was born in Peru to Henry "Roy" Winters and Jessie Marie Ward on Oct. 29, 1932.
She was a lifelong resident of Peru and Miami County, graduating from the Peru High School in 1950. Not long after graduation she married Jack Berryman (deceased), and they had two children, Christine and Bruce. Later she married Derrill Pavey (deceased), and they also had two children, Chad and Shawn. Her son, Chad passed away four years ago after a battle with cancer.
For many years Annette served as the director of social services at Dukes Hospital. In that capacity she made many friends and helped many families. Over the years she treasured a box-full of cards and thank you notes from patients and family members.
She was an active member of Calvary Temple Assembly of God Church, loving and serving God for many years. She had a beautiful singing voice, which found an outlet in several church choirs and many Ole Olsen Productions and Road Shows.
She loved the outdoors and preferred to live in the country. In the years when she was able, you would have found her wandering the woods or walking country roads, more than once in driving snowstorms. Life was busy with the many rescue pets that found their way into her home, along with the horses she raised, the flowers she planted, and the garden vegetables she grew and canned all adding richness to her life. Her skill at baking was a gift she shared with many through helping with bake sales at various churches. She also made professionally decorated pies, apple dumplings, tea rings, pineapple upside-down cakes, and assorted breads that found their way into the homes of family and friends.
Annette was one of seven siblings, two brothers, Earl Winters (Waunitta), Peru, and Jim Winters (Susie) Akron, having pre-deceased her. Those surviving include her sister, Vernice Fox, Springfield, Illinois; John Winters, Peru; Gene Winters (Diana), Peru; and Jan Winters and his much loved son and nephew Eric, Peru.
Annette is survived by her husband of 32 years, Jim Shelton, Peru; daughter, Shawn Holmes, Peru; daughter, Christine Disbro, Peru; son, Bruce Berryman, Peru; stepdaughter, Tracy Chambers, Peru; granddaughter, Lora Disbro, Peru; granddaughter, Rachel Krisher (Anthony), Kokomo, along with their three children, Ava, Ethan, and Chloe, who always called their great-grandmother "Nana." Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the caring and kind-hearted staff at Wellbrooke, where Annette spent her last days trying to recover from stroke-related issues. We also appreciated the loving care she received this past year from her in-home caregivers, Carrie Williams and Carman Gibson.
The Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements, and the viewing will be at from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12, the Calvary Temple Assembly of God Church, U.S. 31 North and 4H Fairground Road (200 North). The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, with internment following at the Peoria Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Temple Church, earmarked for Mission Outreach.
Family and friends may sign the online guestbook at www.FlowersLeedyAllen.com.
